Parents know their children better than anyone else and have the deepest love and concern for them. Parents also have the most direct and long-term responsibility for their children from the Lord who commands parents to teach their children the most important things they will ever learn.
Educationally, one-to-one tutoring has many advantages over classroom lecturing.
Quality textbooks and materials are chosen by parents to assist them in teaching all subjects. A parent does not need to know everything about a subject to be able to teach it. Dr. Ray of the National Home Research Institute conducted a research study in 1998 of the standardized test results for home taught children nationwide. He found these children to average at or above the 94th percentile in all subject areas. (The national average is the 50th percentile.)
Dr. Ray demonstrates that there is no significant relationship between achievement and; whether the father or the mother is a certified teacher, family income, money or time spent on instruction.
Dr. Ray confirms that "the tutorial method of teaching has always been the superior method. Home education epitomizes this tutorial method, providing essentials for success such as a close student/teacher relationship, motivation, flexibility, individualization, and family consistent values."

As Latter Day saints we believe that learning is accelerated when the Spirit is present. The Lord may use home learning to create a more celestial environment where the Spirit can abide and all will be edified.
Several resources are available that provide training for home-educators:
Conventions, workshops, seminars and book fairs at local, state, and regional levels provide practical instruction in teaching techniques including the L.D.S. Home Schooling convention held semi-annually in the Salt Lake/Provo area. I also highly recommend
Zion Institute for Children's quarterly seminars.
Books and magazines (see Taris Book List).
The Lord promises His wisdom and assures that He will supply our needs if we follow Him:
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:5
